Archiving Old Masters

In 2018 I was fortunate enough to be asked to photograph a unique collection of 17th Century Dutch Master Marine Art paintings in the private collection of Anthony Inder Rieden.

This is a remarkable private collection containing most of the great names in Dutch marine art from this period.

The job was to photograph the collection (which took a couple of days on location and another couple of days in the studio), so the images could be used in the publication of a book being published under the guidance of their owner.

The book was released on 9th December 2019 in conjunction with an exhibition of the entire collection at Museum Bredius in The Hague (www.museumbredius.nl)

The publisher of the book is Primavera Pers in Leiden (www.primaverspers.nl). The title of the book is “The Golden Age of Dutch Marine Painting”.

Photographing fine art is a specialist service which we usually perform here at our own studio. Working on location posed it’s own challenges but the client was very delighted with the work done.

It was a rare opportunity for me to work like this and something I would be very happy to do again.
