What is Thangka Painting?
A thangka is a traditional painting
of a Tibetan Buddhist deity, or a mandala worshipped
in the monasteries of Tibetan Buddhism. Thangka painting
is strictly governed by iconographic rules. In Tibet
they are traditionally the centre of Buddhist ceremonies.
They have served this important role for over a thousand
years.
White
Tara
White Tara, (Tibetan: drol
ma kar mo), the goddess of longevity, with one face
two hands and three eyes. The right hand is in the mudra
of supreme generosity; the left holds with the thumb
and forefinger the stem of a white upala to the heart
with the petals blossoming at the ear. Within Tibetan
Buddhism Tara is regarded as a Boddhisattva of compassion
and action. She is the female aspect of Avalokitesvara
(Chenrezig) and in some origin stories she comes from
his tears
